STANDING FOR STONEHENGE

UPDATE: STONEHENGE TUNNEL CANCELLED!

Sacred Earth Activism is excited to confirm that the Chancellor has scrapped the Stonehenge Road and tunnel scheme.

This is welcome news for all who have supported the campaign to protect the world heritage site from extensive harm. We are extremely grateful to Stonehenge Alliance, who led the legal challenges that held back the bulldozers long enough for this decision.

Sacred Earth Activism will continue to support efforts to protect this sacred landscape from harm, working collaboratively with other organisations and groups, and will keep advocating for the permanent abandonment of this destructive scheme.

For millennia, Stonehenge has stood as a timeless symbol of human history and spiritual connection to the land and the cycles of life. This iconic site, nestled in the heart of England, has drawn people from far and wide to celebrate life, connecting with its profound energy and spiritual significance. Yet, the sacred landscape surrounding Stonehenge has found itself under threat from the proposed Stonehenge Tunnel and Expressway – a multi-billion-pound vanity project that will harm the local environment and archaeology and sacred landscape, to shave a mere eight minutes off a car journey.

Our Perspective and Commitment

We stand firmly in support of preserving the sacred landscape of Stonehenge. Since 2020, we have been actively involved in supporting the campaigns to protect it from this desecration, holding ceremonies and sacred actions within the stones themselves, at the nearby resistance camp, and even at the Royal Courts of Justice.

The proposed Stonehenge Expressway is not merely a tunnel; it's part of a larger road-building scheme that threatens to disrupt this fragile chalk downland landscape, a biodiversity hotspot and home to some of the rarest habitats in the UK. It also jeopardises the global historical and cultural importance of Stonehenge.

As we face the challenges of our time, including the climate crisis, we stand in solidarity with all those who care for preserving our sacred connection to the land, especially at sites like Stonehenge. Together, we urge support for a powerful alliance, which includes the Stonehenge Alliance, druids, environmental groups, and archaeologists, as they take it to the courts, once again.
